Our FHC is pleased to continue its support of, and participation in, the Freedmen’s Bureau Indexing project — a massive effort to index millions of records created by the Freedmen’s Bureau at the close of the Civil War. See https://www.discoverfreedmen.org/ These records contain genealogical information of inestimable value to those whose ancestors lived in the South, and those of African-American heritage.
Ready to Get Started? Or Do You Need Help?
Please attend one of these regularly scheduled training sessions for one-on-one indexing assistance. These are drop-in sessions, so please come at a time convenient for you during either of these timeframes.
- The 1st Wednesday evening of every month from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
2. The 2nd Monday morning of every month from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
These sessions will be held at the Washington DC Family History Center at 10000 Stoneybrook Drive, Kensington, MD.
The goal of the project is to have all Freedmen’s Bureau documents name-indexed by the time the new Museum of African-American History and Culture opens this fall in Washington, D.C.
Please join us to learn how you can “give back” by participating in this most important project. For further information, call 301-587-0042.
