The following classes will be held at the Washington, DC Family History Center:

October 27, 9:30 a.m.
“Writing Your Family History – Start Small”
Presenter: Cathy Rosenberger

Writing our ancestors’ stories can be daunting, or easy. In this lecture, Cathy will discuss how she has taken World War II letters of her parents and published them in an engaging picture book. She will demonstrate how to take a nugget/story of a family member and create a short story for publication. She will explain how to add facts about the times/history that the family was living through, and how to get your story or book bound inexpensively.

Passenger ship records are one of the most basic and important record groups for researchers. This class will examine this collection in depth.

All classes are free of charge. No registration is required.

New! DNA Group

We are pleased to announce that our FHC will now host two DNA Special Interest Groups: Beginning and Advanced.

The new Beginning DNA Group will be led by Andy Hochreiter, who presented classes at our annual conference this past May. This group will meet twice a month at two locations, but the class content will be the same for each:

1) At the WDCFHC on the 1st Wednesday night of each month at 7:00 p.m. The first class at the WDCFHC will be on October 3.

2) At the Columbia MD Family History Center on the 3rd Wednesday night of each month at 7:00 p.m. The first class at the Columbia FHC will be September 19.

Our ongoing DNA group, led by Jim Bartlett, will now be designated as the Advanced DNA Group. Those meetings will continue, as in the past, on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at the WDCFHC.

Interested persons are invited to attend either or both groups. To be put on the groups’ mailing lists and for further information, contact:
